McGraw Hill sees double-digit fiscal year gains in digital learning platforms

McGraw Hill, a U.S.-based learning company providing customized content, software and services for pre-K to higher education students, has seen strong gains in digital content sales, based on results in the past fiscal year.

According to a company press release, McGraw Hill recently reported positive fiscal Q4 and 2021 results with double-digit year-over-year growth in digital billings and a 58% increase in inclusive access billings, according to a press release. Inclusive access are digital learning materials that tend to be more affordable than traditional textbooks.

In fiscal year 2021, over 1,400 campuses across the U.S. participated in McGraw Hill's programs, up from 1,100 a year prior.

During FY21, students who used McGraw Hill digital materials saved more than $150 million, according to the release.

Connect, McGraw Hill's flagship digital learning platform for higher education, also saw growth in FY21 with a 27% year-over-year increase in student activations to more than 6 million globally.

"McGraw Hill's strong performance during this challenging year reflects our continued commitment to delivering the best possible educational materials and experiences for students, whether they are learning in a classroom, remotely via digital platforms or some combination," Simon Allen, CEO of McGraw Hill said in the release. "Throughout the last year, we worked hard to successfully meet the increased demand for digital products brought on by the pandemic. McGraw Hill continues to adapt to the changing times by delivering learning tools that are not only cutting-edge but also affordable and accessible."

Throughout this fiscal year, McGraw Hill released a series of items to help students with remote learning:

  • Virtual Labs, an online or hybrid lab for college science courses that instructors used to continue their lab courses online during the pandemic.
  • ALEKS, the artificial intelligence-enabled learning and assessment platform for math and chemistry, allowing instructors to teach in a wide-range of formats. .
  • McGraw Hill Rise, a grades 3-8 assessment to help educators identify and address student learning gaps.
