DSE: LG announces new hires, messaging, products for digital signage unit

• 25 Feb 2010

LG Electronics announced a new marketing approach for its digital signage division this morning at a press conference held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, in conjunction with Digital Signage Expo. The approach, which is being called the “Simple to Buy, Simple to Sell, Simple to Use” campaign reflects LG’s efforts to introduce new ways to simplify the procurement, sale and operation of digital signage networks. LG is now using the “LG makes it simple” tagline as well.

“One problem the industry continues to face is that most digital signage projects are still relatively complex and often confusing for the majority of distributors, integrators and end users,” said Jeff Dowell, vice president, Digital Signage, LG Electronics Business Solutions. “Addressing this challenge LG is working to simplify the entire process from stem to stern by enhancing the customer experience and streamlining costs for the integrators, while still providing an advanced content distribution platform.”

This week at Digital Signage Expo, LG is introducing a variety of new digital signage products, ranging from solid state digital media players and displays built for high ambient light environments to large-format flat panel arrays designed for public venue advertising and information display applications.

In the conference, Dowell also presented three new products on display at LG’s booth at the show, #1205. The LG NC-1000 is a new open architecture, solid state, small form factor media player that is being shown running 3M, BroadSign and MediaTile software.

LG is also showing a 120-inch plasma screen made up for four 60-inch plasma displays designed to rival indoor LED installations. An new LED projector was also introduced.

New hires

Dowell said that in 2009 LG hired on around 20 employees in its digital signage unit alone. LG Electronics USA Business Solutions, which houses the company’s digital signage arm, also announced the addition of John Sheehan as director, Digital Signage Sales. In his new role, Sheehan will be responsible for developing the account strategy and leading the sales team for LG’s Digital Signage solutions.

He comes to LG from NEC, where he most recently served as director of Channel Marketing and was responsible for driving NEC’s monitor, digital signage and projector businesses. At NEC, he also held key B2B sales roles.  Previously, Sheehan worked at Marriott Corporation and Allfreight International in a variety of sales and management positions.  Sheehan will be based in the Lincolnshire, Ill., headquarters are will report to Jeff Dowell.
